Law family papers, 1779-1858.

The Law family papers deal primarily with brothers Andrew and William, as well as William's sons, William and Jonathan. Andrew Law was a noted clergyman and famous as one of America's earliest composers and music compilers. His brother was a printer, politician, and justice of the peace in Cheshire, Connecticut. William Law, Jr. was a noted lawyer and assessor in Cheshire. Jonathan attended Yale, was an active lawyer, and served as the postmaster of Hartford, Connecticut, for many years. Additionally, Jonathan was an amateur writer. The collection consists of many bills and receipts, account books of William Law, and numerous diaries of Jonathan Law. There are also booklets documenting Jonathan's expenses while at Yale. Taxes collected by William Law Jr. are noted in ledgers. Other pieces include correspondence to and from all four men, and original writings by Jonathan.
